From the dawn of time and until today dog has been and is a carnivore. They hunted in flocks - captured, killed and ate the prey. The first thing they ate was the soft parts of the animal, as udders, vom, and insides of the creature.
These parts were the easiest to obtain and the most nutritious for the animal. When they ate the stomach (vom) they got both fiber, minerals and vitamins. In other words, the dog got what it needed.
First ate alpha-individuals (group leaders) and only puppies could come close to get the parts of the nutritious foods without significant problems. Dogs that were lower in the hierarchy had to give way and to be content with what was left. Older dogs hat to chew on the bones when the rest of the crowd was satisfied.
